2022 Priorities

The League of California Cities Latino Caucus Board of Directors Sets Priorities

The League of California Cities Latino Caucus Board of Directors met for its annual Board Retreat to set advocacy priorities and event programming. The Latino Caucus remains committed to achieving a California which provides Latinos equal rights, access, opportunities, and outcomes. The following priorities have been adopted for 2022:

Housing Affordability

• Secure funding to increase the supply and affordability of housing. Secure adequate and sustainable funding for cities to increase construction of housing at all income levels, particularly affordable housing and workforce housing. • Advocate for the equitable distribution and comprehensive technical assistance of state and federal funding to address housing affordability in California cities.

Infrastructure

• Attain investments to strengthen and sustain critical infrastructure. • Advocate for policies that strengthen the conditions of local streets, highways, bridges, public transit, and broadband to improve workforce and economic development. • Secure support and work with stakeholders to provide cities with access to the tools needed to ensure projects are delivered equitably, efficiently, and cost-effectively to meet current and future needs.

Climate Change

• Advance programs and policies addressing climate change, promote green technologies, and create new jobs and workforce opportunities. • Advance California’s climate goals by investing in the needs of the most polluted and underserved communities and by promoting the affordability, access, and equitable distribution of infrastructure resources for zero-emission mobility.

Immigration

• Promote federal comprehensive immigration reform legislation that provides a pathway to citizenship for undocumented residents. • Expand naturalization services to provide education, outreach, and application assistance for lawful permanent residents and individuals eligible for administrative relief. • Ensure access to quality and affordable health care for all Californians irrespective of immigration status.
